Why Lasernet Essentials is a Game-Changer for Document Management

Lasernet Essentials is the new best thing since sliced bread for any company using D365 F&O/SCM. Formpipe has taken the ‘try before you buy’ concept to a level unsurpassed by anyone else in the document management field with this new solution!

Introducing Lasernet Essentials: The Free Document Management Solution

At Community Summit in San Antonio this year, Formpipe announced the launch of their new product, Lasernet Essentials. Lasernet Essentials is an embedded solution in D365 F&O which allows you to replace up to 3 customer, or vendor-facing, out of the box forms FOR FREE. And that’s just at one time, but I’ll get back to that in a minute. 

The 3 reports can be chosen from a catalog of 13 pre-setup default reports, which means you don’t have to set up the reports from scratch. 

Powerful Editing with the Lasernet Query Wizard

With Lasernet Essentials, it’s possible to edit the data pulled into the active reports using the Lasernet Query Wizard. The Query Wizard, which is a visual SQL tool, is one of the best parts of the Lasernet Connector from the enterprise solution. This tool allows a system administrator who doesn’t have development experience to update reporting structure by adding tables and fields to a form, such as a sales invoice. The Query Wizard even has the capability to add multi-level sorting with the ability to filter down reporting results using ranges.

During the setup process, the user will install the Lasernet Developer’s form editor locally. This means that once the query is setup to pull in the data as required, the Lasernet Developer’s form editor can be opened from within D365. The form editor includes powerful tools to develop a great looking form, complete with barcode creation and the ability to pull images from D365! 

Seamless Cloud Printing and Predefined Destinations

The Lasernet Essentials solution is setup to allow cloud printing. This means that the System Administrator can download and install a simple cloud printing application to the network printer server, rendering it Lasernet cloud-printing capable. On this single server, the Administrator could add unlimited printers to be used for the Lasernet documents, and there is no additional cost for this printing solution!

By leveraging a simplified version of the Lasernet Predefined destinations multiple outputs can be accomplished. For example, it’s possible to configure a Purchase Order Confirmation form to automatically email the company Buyer so they can follow up with the Vendor and, at the same time, print out the Purchase Order Confirmation at the Accounts Payable Manager’s desk. The Lasernet Predefined destination can also be set up to always print the Sales Packing Slip at the packing station document printer upon posting. 

Effortless Activation and Flexibility for Your Reporting Needs

With no licensing, there’s nothing to worry about -- just download the package and get started. And, when you decide to get the full Lasernet package, upgrading is just a few simple steps. A license code will be provided, and once added to the Parameters, the full Lasernet package is available and ready to go in D365 F&O.

Do you remember that I mentioned how you can only use 3 reports at a time? This means 3 active reports at one time. You can, however, have several inactive reports. This is important to understand. It is possible to pull in another report, such as the Customer Account Statement or something that may be generated occasionally, like once a week or once a month. To achieve this, inactivate one of the primary 3 reports and then make the Account Statement active. Lasernet will hold onto the query and design changes previously made – no need to setup the query and form again. And then, once complete, just turn off the Statement and turn back on the other report. It’s that easy!

I’m amazed that the Lasernet Essentials solution has been released for FREE for companies utilizing D365 F&O. There’s even a user guide that can be downloaded to help a new user get started.
